Biography

Mette Carla works as a Director and Creative Writer. She has a strong visual profile as well as conceptual approach to cinema and fearlessly engages in portraying even difficult and taboo subjects. Her intuitive mindset enriches a casting process – whether it be with actors or everyday people – and she easily integrates the characters in her innovative interpretations of the real world.

She started out as an Art Director but subsequently attended the National Film School of Denmark where she graduated with the conceptual documentary “XY anatomy of a boy”. The film has travelled the world and screen on more than 25 festivals and museums.

For the project Venus, a feature length film co-directed with Lea Glob, they won the Nordic Talent main pitch award of 32.000€. The film was nominated for the IDFA First Appearance Award and the Dragon Award at Gothenburg Film Festival. Also, Mette Carla wrote and directed the short film “Vanilla” exploring the space between innocent childhood games and the seriousness of the first sexual experiences. “Vanilla” was selected for the international short film competition at Milano International Film Festival.

In 2014 Mette Carla’s short “Bloom” was selected for the Berlinale Talent Screenwriting Lab among hundreds of applicants and is currently in postproduction. She works on a new feature film supported by the Danish Film Institute and the Danish Arts Council called “Resorts” it’s explores escapism and mass tourism.
